Summer is here...

...at least traditionally Summer begins following Memorial Day weekend.

Hopefully everyone was able to get out and enjoy the great weather this past weekend, as well as maybe visit a national cemetery and honor those for whom Memorial Day was invented.

Now that Summer is here, Stormy Hill Harley-Davidson has some things planned, and the first is our 13th Anniversary Party on June 6th. In addition to the music, food, and normal fun there will a drawing for a FREE (yes, FREE) 2015 Harley-Davidson.

We have:
- 500 Free Registrations for the drawing
- 500 Free Event Pins
- 2 bands
- Free lunch
- 2 Live Radio Remotes
And....1 Lucky Bike Winner
Don't miss it.

You must be present to win, and only the first 500 people who register will be eligible for the drawing.

Memorial Day

This coming Monday, the 25th of May is Memorial Day.

Stormy Hill Harley-Davidson will be closed in observance of Memorial Day on Monday.

From the website www.usmemorialday.org comes this little bit of the history of the day:

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the United States of America. Over two dozen cities and towns claim to be the birthplace of Memorial Day. While Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966, it’s difficult to prove conclusively the origins of the day.
Regardless of the exact date or location of its origins, one thing is clear – Memorial Day was borne out of the Civil War and a desire to honor our dead. It was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11. “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land,” he proclaimed. The date of Decoration Day, as he called it, was chosen because it wasn’t the anniversary of any particular battle.
On the first Decoration Day, General James Garfield made a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, and 5,000 participants decorated the graves of the 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried there.
The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York in 1873. By 1890 it was recognized by all of the northern states. The South refused to acknowledge the day, honoring their dead on separate days until after World War I (when the holiday changed from honoring just those who died fighting in the Civil War to honoring Americans who died fighting in any war).
It is now observed in almost every state on the last Monday in May with Congressional passage of the National Holiday Act of 1971 (P.L. 90 – 363). This helped ensure a three day weekend for Federal holidays.

8th Annual Memorial Ride and Father's Day

Mother's Day has just passed, and I hope all the mothers out there were treated as they deserved, and enjoyed their day.
This weekend is our 8th Annual Memorial Ride, from the American Legion in Bushnell to the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. This is an escorted ride, with color guard, bike blessing, prayer and memorial at the cemetery, followed by the ride to Stormy Hill.
Riders can register online on our website, or in the store up until Friday, and in person at the American legion in Bushnell on Saturday morning. All registration proceeds go to support the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), so this is a great chance to help this group.
This ride is open to riders of all makes of bikes, and trikes, so you don't have to be a Harley rider to take part.

Memorial Ride Registration

Father's Day is June 21st. To help you get dad what he wants (or deserves) we're offering this special: From May 11 to June 21, buy dad a Harley-Davidson collared shirt and get a $10.00 coupon for use toward a future purchase.
