In Harley-Davidson history...

William S. Harley, passed away on this date, September 16, 1943

Born on December 29, 1880, Harley started tinkering with gasoline engines with friend Arthur Davidson in the early 1900s. Shortly after the duo created the first production motorcycle, Harley attended college in the School of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. After graduation he returned to the rapidly growing company and used his knowledge as an engineer to contribute to the company’s successes. He passed away of natural causes on September 16, 1943 leaving behind the legacy he and his co-founders worked so hard to create.
